We had another great week in 1st Grade!  You can click on "Newsletter September 2-5" to see our happenings in the upcoming week!

Thank you Dillon Snyder for being our first friend to donate to our "Providing Palm Project".  Donations can be made to our classroom and we will provide them to the  Animal Shelter.  You can send in old towels, newspaper, dog and cat food.  They have a list of items on Spartanburg Humane Society website.  They are always very appreciative.

Dillon, Colten, and Daniel were awarded with our Summer Reading Award Ice Cream Treats and certificates for their willingness to read a little over the Summer!  They are also B and BB readers in the classroom.  Reading with your child daily DOES make a difference.  Here is the proof!!

Have a great weekend!

We finally found out why dogs have their tongues hanging out!

This was a great ending to our week!  We had cookies and read a book about life lessons.  We discussed lots of vocabulary words for life such as :  proud, modest, respect, patience, cooperate, trustworthy, unfair, generous and optomistic.  They gave lots of examples of what these words mean!

Something fun and funny was the students had to roam the room and find a friend to sign their "catagories sheet".  Categories included, who has a brother, who has a pet, etc.  One category was " Who has traveled to another state".  We talked about the difference in cities and states and showed the U.S. Map.  One child had been to Mexico and I am happy to report that most students in 1st Grade have now reported that they have been to S.C. and Mexico as well!  :)  Funny!!!!

Our math graph of "Our Favorite Thing to do on the Playground" showed how to tally and graph from tallies. We went out for extra recess for our great effort in 1st Grade this week!

This is absolutely one of the best books ever!  Let me know if you want to borrow it to reread at home.  I will be happy to let you do that!  :)
The kids had lots of loving stories about their grandparents.  My sweet, sweet Colten was listening as Riley Grace shared about someone who passed away and he told her, " Aw...That is sad.  I am sorry that happened". Life skills!  Important part of being ready for the future!  Thanks for the great job you do raising them!!

Welcome to our First Day!

We had a great 1st day in 1st Grade.  We spent a lot of time organizing supplies and going over rules and procedures.  We did work on writing our lower case letters, walking the school and meeting new faces and places, sharing our "All About Me" Homework Assignment, and graphing our favorite thing to do in the swimming pool!  Music is always a fun class too!  Thanks for sharing your children with me!  It will be a great year...
