March has been a lot of fun!  We have Ms. Victoria Lewis from Boiling Springs High School helping every morning from 8-9:15.  She works in Centers and helps with Game Time too!  Glad to have the good help!

A big shout out to Martha Waters for her sharing of fiction and nonfiction St. Patrick's Day books. Cupcakes were delicious and we have been earning gold candy left by our leprechaun for good behavior!   Students played a math game on March 17th of making tens and racing to reach 50!  Good Place Value practice and fun while we learned!

Forces and Motion

Our car creations were wonderful. We experimented in the lab to see if they would roll.  The car on the top left had the biggest wheels and rolled better than most.  Students found out we need a better way than a rubberband to keep the wheels in place?!  We did research before we began creating, but we will research more next year! :)

We have had a lot of fun discussing the word "nonsense" and Dr. Seuss.  After reading "One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish, the students created a "nonsense creature" and named it.  Emily combined rhyme and nonsense.  Her black hat cat wears the black hat!  They loved it.

Today we watched a Wonderopolis video on from the Pawn Stars show on T.V. about "fools gold".  The children learned how to test rocks that look like gold to make sure it "IS" real gold.  We had several students bring in "pyrite" a rock that looks like gold.  We found it on the Internet. We also have some books checked out on treasures and pirates. We discussed how Americans migrated West in search of gold, in the 1800s.

Car building has begun!  We have 4 groups with 4 different cars.  Discussion about where the wheels go was interesting.  Several wanted to put the wheels on the sides of the car, but others suggested the bottom so it would roll!!  Great thinking!  :)

Today we experimented with how forces affect the movement of objects.  Cameron pushed his car down the ramp and his car went the farthest.  He deducted that if you give a little push...it goes farther!! :)  Car making begins tomorrow!
