We had a lot of fun making reindeer with candy canes and pipe cleaners and then work math Christmas word problems!   We have some great thinkers! 
After that, we made reindeer recipe for the reindeer and wrote out the recipe so we can make it at home! 

We appreciate our great examples from BSHS taking time to read to us today!  The kids loved having them!

              We have started our "count down" to Christmas to help us prepare for subtraction in January!  The children have enjoyed counting backward and getting closer daily to Santa!  We read lots of gingerbread books this week and today we created a graph and wrote about our graph information! We are ready for Santa and we made a cookie plate for Santa's cookies.  He always ate my cookies growing up!!  :)

 We are the champions!  We raised over $200 in our class alone for the Clemson Carolina Challenge and won a pizza/movie party!  Thanks for your help and contributions!  It's fun to win but it is more fun knowing that our proceeds go to fight cancer. I am sure we all have someone touched by the disease.

Thanksgiving and Popcorn Estimation

  What a fun morning!  We estimated how much popcorn was in each bowl by grouping 1/2 of  popcorn in groups of 10 and doubling the number to find how much!  Then, we estimated how many would fit on the length of a turkey feather.  We made popcorn turkeys and had a wonderful morning!  Special cookies and crafts tomorrow.  Please read through the thankful thoughts your child has had for the month and have a blessed holiday! 

Fact and Opinion

This week we discussed Fact and Opinion. We played a game entitled, "Would You Rather".  The boys played against the girls and they had to make a choice and support it with reasons! They did a great, great job!
We also had fun making noun posters and discussing the pilgrims and their "voyage" ( word for the week).  We discussed about what might have happened had they not veered North but landed near Virginia, where they originally wanted to go!  We also graphed about whether or not we would want to travel on the Mayflower and we supported our "whys and why nots" with good reasons!

Community Helpers Culminating Project

We became Community Helpers during November and as our "Caring Cactus" project, we made posters and persuaded 2nd grade to join in collecting those gently used books for our 4K Home Libraries.  We collected 260 books that we sorted by fiction and nonfiction, divded by 40 students, bagged and delivered!  Great graphing and lots of math today!

cookie!  Oreos win grade wide!

October Fun Day!

What a fun day!  We dressed up as Community Helpers and then the fun began.  We read with our 4th grade buddy readers and took them candy to share from our stash!   We drew pumpkins and estimated the number of seeds.   Mrs. Scott, myself and the children put all of those seeds in piles of 5s and 10s and counted! We discovered that each pumpkin held between 400 and 600 seeds. It was easy to tell why we count large amounts by 5s and 10s!!!  Then, we drew what we would be for Halloween and sorted by Fiction and Nonfiction.  Snack was delicious thanks to Mrs. Stukes, Mrs. Waters, and Mrs. Wilson!  After lunch, we presented our Community Helper Books.  Great job class!!! We also observed a chemical reaction of baking soda and vinegar inside our newly carved jack-o-lantern!  We sorted all the candy that was brought in and made addition equations! 

Learning can be so much fun.  I can't do it without you parents!  I hope you know how much I appreciate all you do!

The children had a blast today!  It was great exercise and a great way to earn money for a Fall PTA fundraiser!  Thanks for the support!

Our Wonderings

Boy did we have fun watching Colin's crab.  Because he is nocturnal, we had to turn the lights out and be very quiet.  What do you know?  He came out of that shell and crawled across the carpet!  It was great!  We read some informational text on where land crabs live and what they eat!  :) 

Wow!  What a busy week already!  We have had a lot of fun with super heroes and it ties right in with Community Helpers Project in process!  We are all heroes to someone.  Maybe it is something you say or do or the way you encourage others daily.  Firefighters, Nurses, Police Officers and everyone who keeps our country on the move...we salute you!

As you can see, we are resarching and gathering information on what our Community Helpers do so we are informed and can write about our findings.

 

BIG SHOUT OUT TO MRS. SCOTT!   Thank you for organizing our PTA Basket!  We  have a $250.00 basket for bidding at the Fall Festival this Thursday. Thank you all the parents who contributed!  WOW!  This has to be one of the best baskets from the room.
